Development Progress
Hey there!
I have poured my heart and soul into the development of Solitary Ash, juggling this passion project alongside freelance game development to make ends meet. The struggle of solo game development without funding has been a constant battle, but my love for storytelling through games drives me forward.
An update on Solitary Ash - the name change from Solitary - Stories from the Ash was necessary as the project initially focused on several characters and their stories, I'm keeping the scope creep to a minimum. I have to remind myself that I'm only one person and I can do so much. The idea of multiple stories was cool but it involved a larger team and funds, I need to constantly remind myself that it's a compact game if I ever want to finish the project and launch it.
I migrated my whole project from Unity 2020 to 2022 and that took a long while as I had to re-learn Game Creator 2 (a compendium of awesome tools and functionalities that I'm using to make the game) and it's modules. GC2 is very stable and it offers a whole lot more portability and new features that GC 1 didn't have.
From a Mechanics standpoint, I have made the decision to scope down and remove the entire Survival element, I felt it was becoming a game within a game, and that distracted from the core experience. I am currently focusing on Exploration, Environmental Storytelling, and Moral Choices to truly immerse players in this unique world.
Storywise, I have spent the last 6 years crafting intricate details parts of this game world, solidifying the foundation for an unforgettable journey. The main character's arc is meticulously planned yet leaves the Player to explore the world and stories at their own pace, with chapters outlined and environmental storytelling developed to enhance the storytelling. The characters and their backstories are fleshed out, weaving a rich tapestry for players to uncover.
As for game content, the MC has been through several iterations visually, I'm trying to distil the right shapes and forms that help focus on the main core of the game. I am currently making an asset pass, creating several specific props and assets for the locations, artifacts, and central pieces that will captivate players as they explore this immersive world.
There is still much work to be done, and I'm still here taking one step at a time, but I am going to try to keep you updated on the progress. A Steam Page and demo are in the works, aiming for a brighter 2024 filled with exciting adventures.
Happy exploring and thank you for joining me on this incredible journey.
